Descriptions of dramatic scenes occur frequently in fiction books, not only describing the layout and contents of a scene, but often including details such as the speech articulated by characters in a scene, and the movements and actions performed by the characters. Provided these descriptions can be accurately identified and interpreted, they serve as instructions for populating three-dimensional virtual worlds and animations. The primary problem with natural language text is its inherent sparseness in detail and ambiguous nature. During the comprehension of natural language text a human generally fills in much of the missing detail required for the visualisation of the scene using relevant world-knowledge. This research aims to determine the extent to which computational techniques may be used to overcome the ambiguity of natural language texts, with the purpose of locating information that describes the scene.
